This position is for a Systems Administrator who is needed to

perform systems administration and support customer applications in a fast paced environment for an HP Enterprise Services State & Local Government and Educational Division (SLED) public sector client Retirement System.

Customary responsibilities of this role will involve desktop support of Windows 7, system administration of Windows 2000, 2003 and 2008 servers to include:

  • MS Exchange Administration
  • Manage VMware servers and clients, Backup Exec 11d, SEP, WSUS, Exchange Admin, MS SQL, Active Directory Domain Administration, backup and recovery planning.
  • User support of Outlook, printing and scanning.
  • Management of the forte system, learning the Forte Retirement system and how to support the deployment, starting, stopping, troubleshooting of Production and UAT systems.
  • Monitoring payroll and other batch processes.
Although rare, occasional travel may be needed depending on project staffing and client needs.

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field or equivalent work experience. May hold entry-level or intermediate-level certification(s) in work field. Typically requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience.

Critical Skills Required:
Must have a minimum of 2 years Systems Administrator experience with MS Windows administration of Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 server, active directory, DNS, Windows Server Update Services and IIS.

Microsoft SQL 2000, 2005 or 2008 administration. (Querying experience a plus.)

Additional Skills/ Experience Desired

Deployment of processes

FTP or SFTP configuration

Forte repository and software configuration

SVN, Perforce, or PVCS usage and administration to include setup, configuration, and security rights. (SVN preferred)

Disaster recovery planning

BackupExec or ArcServe

GECS or other job scheduling application

Scripting experience (preferring Java, VB, or Windows)

TCP/IP, VPN, and basic networking


Systems monitoring application (ideally Nagios or What’s Up Gold)

Dell or HP servers and storage devices

This position will require an individual who can demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication stills, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems effeciently.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Networking – routing and switching

Firewall management – ASA or Checkpoint preferred

Retirement system experience

Experience communicating with clients in a consulting atmosphere
