Job Summary:
The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant manages the patient/family breastfeeding experience through utilization of critical thinking, teamwork, effective communication, and breastfeeding specific judgment/knowledge/skills.

Job Responsibilities:
Quality- Provides optimal care to patients' and family which is collaborative, evidence based and meets national/facility standards to achieve the best possible outcome. Service-Cares for patient/family according to the Sutter Difference standards and activities ensuring the best patient/family experience. Growth-Actively manages patient/family breastfeeding plan of care to achieve optimal health goals for patient/family. People-Coordinates the activities of the health care team in a professional manner according to facility's Standards to promote a positive work environment. Finance-Utilizes resources to deliver quality care in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Community- Promotes a positive relationship between Sutter Health and the community.

Education:
AA or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Qualifications

Required Experience:
Minimum of one year working with breastfeeding mothers in an acute care or clinic setting, and knowledge of breastfeeding equipment/aides required. Basic computer skills and experience working with multicultural and diverse socioeconomic populations preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant; BLS -Health Care Provider.

Complexity of Work:
Independently practices and prioritize multiple demands in a ever-changing environment.

Knowledge:
Must have knowledge of adult learning principles, multidisciplinary collaboration, lactation equipment and related aides; demonstrated verbal, written communication skills and basic computer skills. Multilingual knowledge of home visitation principles preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, being easily understood by customers. Must be professional in appearance, and have access to reliable transportation.
