Special Note: This position is located in Northwest Arkansas.
The Medical Laboratory Technician has the educational background to perform standard laboratory procedures requiring a limited use of independent judgement and interpretation. Such testing may be done in any or all of the major lab sections, including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, histology, immunology or microbiology. The technician works under the
directions of a technologist, supervisor or laboratory director.
Job Duties
Provides for receipt and ordering of tests.
Assesses specimen and order acceptability.
Performs computer functions (entry, edit, cancellation and billing of tests).
Processes specimens according to departmental policies and procedures.
Provides for performance and documentation of tests.
Performs tests according to departmental policies and procedures.
Performs computer functions (i.e., inquiry, edit, result entry, transfusion data entry, specimen cancellation, billing, etc.).
Reviews test results to assure accuracy prior to release.
Provides for Quality Control/Quality Assurance.
Performs equipment startup, calibrations, and reassays as required.
Performs inventory, receipt, preparation/modification/processing, storage and/or disposal of supplies, reagents and/or
blood products.
Performs preventive maintenance and reagent, instrument and/or blood component quality control.
Reviews and monitors equipment quality control results (weekly and monthly).
Assures that back-up instrumentation is maintained and ready for use.
Follows Occurrance Management process for variances.
Assists in administrative duties.
Prepares and maintains files of meeting minutes and documentation.
Assists in the research, development, and/or validation of new policies, procedures and/or instrumentation.
Monitors the stock levels required to support the laboratory activities and alerts supervisor when low.
Ensures stock rotation and monitors expiration dates of stock on hand.
Assists in return of equipment to the manufacturer for calibration or repair.
Oversees data collection as required.
