TRUSS DESIGNER - RAPID CITY, SD
Under moderate supervision provides technical support to the sales, customer service, and field service functions related to complex component projects; uses advanced knowledge of component engineering and field requirements to process sales orders, perform estimating and takeoff services. The ideal candidate will be proficient with Mitek (or similar) design software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Produces floor and roof truss layouts, performs engineering and takeoff services using ability to understand blueprints and customer requirements for specific projects. Analyzes margins and quality standards to ensure a competitive and timely quote.
Computes load and grade requirements and material stress factors to determine design specifications based on customer’s structural design needs; determines whether standard designed components or customer designed components are most appropriate for customer’s needs.
Writes component orders that reflect knowledge of equipment used in plant and how to optimize efficiency of cutting and component assembly; demonstrates knowledge of loading conditions and utilizes design software packages. Implements and monitors design control procedures.
Interacts with and advises sales and customer service staff on technical aspects of customer inquiries and consults with engineering staff when more in-depth analysis is required; able to answer most questions using own knowledge and experience.
Plans and paces own work efficiency in order to meet daily, weekly, project, or team related productivity goals.
May be required to train less experienced technicians and review their work.
Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

Knowledge of company products sufficient to determine appropriate structural applications
Strong attention to detail
Knowledge of basic math and measurement skills
Knowledge of drafting, architectural design or CAD applications
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read and understand blueprints and architectural drawings
Proficiency in Mitek, Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and three (3) years component design experience; or equivalent experience and education.
Successful completion of WTCA Truss Technician Training – Levels I and II is preferred.
Use of Mitek design software is strongly preferred.
