Job Descriptions:
GENERAL PURPOSE

The Linux Administrator – Email/Web/Fax-to-Email Administration position for TelePacific Communications requiring a deep understanding of ISP email functionality.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision of the Sr. Manager System Administration

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Good knowledge of LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl or PHP)

Build, install/deploy, monitor, maintain, upgrade and administer Linux servers provisioned for TelePacific Communications ISP customers.

Manage Linux Email server applications, to include but not limited to: Postfix, Exim, Amavisd, ClamAV and related software & protocols.

Manage MySQL, indices, database replication and update table structures.

Manage Linux Web servers applications, Apache, log files, traffic analyzers.

Administer multiple servers by monitoring logs and diagnostics information.

Respond to Email/Web outage situations or network congestion resulting in service degradation to TelePacific customers and resolve the issue in accordance with TelePacific’s Service Level Agreement.

Solid knowledge of NFS and performance issues.

Communicate interdepartmentally and externally to facilitate order processing/provisioning when Email/Web are a component of an order.

Understand and work with Abuse/Network Integrity issues, dealing with both internal and external contacts.

Troubleshoot effectively and efficiently in live production systems; working trouble tickets as assigned in a Team environment.

Product and service development: including but not limited to adding new features such as spam and virus protection as market demand dictates.

Required Experience:
PERIPHERAL DUTIES

May be called on by other teams to assist with application issues

Technical knowledge transfer to other team members

System documentation

Be able to communicate technical ideas orally and in written format

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Computer Science

3 (three) to 5 (five) years of ISP level experience in High Volume System Administration, or

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Excellent Linux command line proficiency

Excellent Linux OS installations, startup scripts.

Solid shell scripting.

Solid Perl scripting

Solid MySQL proficiency.

Excellent NFS knowledge and performance related issues.

Extremely accurate and can follows specific instructions and processes.

Intermediate to Expert level Linux knowledge in the essential duties/responsibilities above.

Networking: competent knowledge of TCP/IP and related design.

Security: Competent knowledge.

Firewall / IPTABLES administration is a plus

2 to 4 years experience in ISP level Web/email services.

Schedule flexibility for on-call rotation and overtime (when needed)

Function well in both a Team environment and independently and communicate effectively with individuals with all levels of technical knowledge.

Excellent communication skills.

Minimum typing speed of 55 wpm.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work varied shifts in an on call status

Should have some knowledge of telecommunications

Proficient in Word and Excel for communication purposes

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Personal computer, including word-processing, database and spreadsheet programs; calculator, telephone, copy and fax machine.
