The School of Engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, Georgia (www.spsu.edu) invites applications for a full-time position in Mechanical Engineering at the lecturer level (other ranks considered) to begin August 17, 2012. This is a particularly exciting time for SPSU with four new undergraduate degrees in engineering recently started. The university is one of the fastest growing in the USG system with over 5000 students, and mechanical engineering has over 300 students since starting in 2009, making it the 4th most popular major on campus.

Southern Polytechnic State University, a member of the University System of Georgia, is a residential university with approximately 5,800 students pursuing bachelors and masters degrees in many of the nation’s fastest growing technology fields. The university, located one mile west of 1-75’s Exit 263, is just 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta. Southern Polytechnic is an EOE / ADA /AA Employer University System of Georgia.

Essential Responsiblities

Candidates must demonstrate the potential for scholarly research and professional development. The applicant must have the ability to initiate research programs and a dedication to undergraduate teaching. All faculty members are expected to contribute to the distance education effort.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

The program is particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: design – including machine design, product development, manufacturing, materials, or nuclear engineering.

Industrial experience is preferred.


Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Applicants who are Licensed Professional Engineers in Georgia or who have the ability to obtain licensing within 3 years of appointment will be given preference.
