The Preclinical Research Technician provides technical support for preclinical research projects as they pertain to the Preclinical Imaging Core. Maintains high standard of customer service and communicates effectively with research personnel, Imaging Core (SAIC) staff, ARC staff and representatives from outside institutions. Receives and performs requests for subject-related technical services. Performs routine techniques on a variety of laboratory models as directed. Provides basic subject breeding colony support and maintenance in accordance with specific research needs. Performs health rounds of model subjects. Performs routine model husbandry as needed.
A high school diploma/GED is required.
An associate's or bachelor's degree in an animal science related field is preferred.
Six (6) years of experience in a professional animal care facility (e.g. zoo, veterinary clinic, laboratory animal facility) are required with a high school diploma/GED.
Three (3) years of experience are acceptable with a relevant associate's degree.
No experience is required if the necessary basic skills, knowledge and principles of laboratory animal science have been acquired through the completion of a relevant bachelor's degree.
OTHER CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is required within 18 months of assuming this position.
