Summit Business Media is hiring for a Senior Database Administrator . The position will be based in Erlanger, Kentucky.
For this role, day to day duties include proper database maintenance along with proactive measures to maximize the database availability and performance. This role performs database Administration for MySQL, SQL Server, NoSQL, and all other Summit database installations including architecture, capacity planning, installing, upgrading; configuration and patching and all functions to provide high availability, high performance and high security. The job includes aspects of 24×7 support in conjunction with other team members.
Job Functions Include :
Responsible for the day-to-day operations and 7×24 production support of the Production Application Database environments.
Install, configure, and manage staging, production, and disaster recovery database environments.
In conjunction with application and server administrators; design, implement, and manage HA and DR capabilities for the applications.
Implement proactive monitoring capabilities that ensure minimal disruption to the user community.
Monitor and tune performance; working across application, server / storage, database, and functional support areas to tune systems for optimal performance.
Create and manage user and security profiles; ensuring application security policies and procedures are followed.
Utilize various methods to provide flexible data recovery capabilities.
Providing overnight and off-hours support as part of a support team.
Setup and support database clustering, mirroring, replication and log shipping.
Designing and architecting highly available database infrastructures for 100% uptime and reliability.
Supporting all databases within Windows, and Linux (CentOS) LAMP environments– creation, installation and real time replication.
Overseeing database security.
Performing routine maintenance on systems and their environments.
Troubleshooting application issues.
Troubleshooting bugs/errors on various Windows and Linux environments.
Collaborates with business users to determine reporting and data needs.
Designs and creates queries to extract desired data and runs reports as needed.
Formats data and validates results.
Manages multiple projects at one time while meeting deadlines.
Recognizing and managing internal and external customer expectations.
Assisting with the management of Sharepoint and .Net environments and applications.
Minimum requirements :
At least 5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in SQL server 2005 or above.
Linux and Windows Server administration experience
Understanding of LAMP environments
Comfortable with open source applications and development
Excellent understanding of SQL with experience with experience in performance monitoring, analysis and tuning of relational databases.
Experience in Database Administration for MySQL and SQL Server installations (includes capacity planning, installations, upgrades, configuration and patching).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Advanced enterprise level experience administering clustered LAMP environments and infrastructures supporting SaaS type software.
Understand the development lifecycle, and how infrastructure support fits into that process.
SQL, MySQL and noSQL database architecture, administration, performance tuning and clustering experience.
Ability to execute advanced infrastructure security fundamentals for high traffic web sites and social media applications.
Network troubleshooting and a thorough understanding of DNS and TCP/IP.
Attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem solving
Experience with cloud storage solutions a plus.
BA or BS degree preferred with 5-10 yrs of related work experience.
