Tuesday thru Saturday (830 am to 5:30 pm)
(flexible hours are required as this position will often back up / fill in for other spotters)
a. Reports to Garage Supervisor
b. Executes work under direction or established procedures 90% of the time.
c. Works independently setting priorities and work schedule 10% of the time.
d. Supervises none.
Function as a utility worker and spotter. Utility work will consist of various job duties to include but not limited to: trailer washing , shop truck part retrieval, warehouse cleaning projects, truck and trailer shuttling to offsite shops, retrieving truck and trailer from d.o.t. stranded dot drivers, various shop duties to include pm’s and tire work. The spotter function: Spot trailers in the lot or at a dock door in an efficient manner, inspect spotter tractors and trailers for maintenance and cleaning. Check reefer units. Fuels / tops off reefer trailer fuel tank. Washes out trailers. Other duties as required. The spotter portion is for vacation and time off coverage for the other 4 spotters. This requires extreme flexibility and ability to work all 4 spotters schedules.
Essential Duties as a Utility Person:
a. Trailer washing.
b. Part retrieval for shop.
c. Truck and trailer shuttling to offsite locations.
d. Various shop functions to include pm’s or tire work for trucks and trailers
e. Warehouse sanitation support to include pallet processing
Essential Duties as a Spotter:
Moving trailers between pads, doors, & buildings on a timely basis. Ensures all trailers are chocked at the dock. Ensures dock door is closed, and dock plate is retracted when docking or pulling trailers away from dock.
Sliding tandems to meet state bridge laws.
Weighing finished trailers accurately.
1. Inspects / adjusts trailer brakes on all inbound trailers. Inspects trailer registration, inspection, and other documentation. Inspects trailer suspension, sliding tandem rails and latches, frame and cross-members for structural integrity.
Inspecting spotter tractors, basic maintenance and fueling.
Checking refrigerator unit operation.
Performing yard, trailer & dock checks.
Performing basic communications, radio and personal.
Occasional Work Performed:
Problem identification and solution.
Various projects, Gate station coverage
a. Ability to operate with a changing & flexible schedule
Preferred CDL with HAZMAT certification or ability to obtain within a 3 month period.
b. High school and previous experience in warehouse a plus.
c. Working indoors and outdoors year-round.
d. Must have ability to get into and out of a truck as many as 120 times per shift or more
e. Good driving record
f. Must meet Department of Transportation physical and drug screening requirements.
