The Richmond Times-Dispatch is looking for a newspaper researcher/archivist to assist with our newsgathering operations. Extensive use of trusted internet sources for research. The candidate will also be responsible for generating revenue from the negotiation and sale of our archived content for those seeking to republish our articles and photographs. This position handles many calls from the general public looking for guidance on how to search our archives. Upload of photos to our website as needed for the general public to purchase, maintaining the integrity of our physical archive going back to 1852, and developing good relationships with other archives and resources in the Richmond area are all duties of this position. Curates and maintains our archive blog with unique content and photos to attract audience.
We’re looking for a confident negotiator who can quickly grasp the cultural and monetary value of our archive. He/she must be proactive in developing ideas for generating revenue. In today’s on-line and mobile environments, he/she must be an assertive protector of our content and copyright. Experience in both customer service and research environments is essential. Knowledge of copyright law as it pertains to print, on-line and social media preferred. Experience in print or web-publishing is also preferred. Bachelor's Degree required, Master of Library Sciences or similar preferred.
