Provides leadership in planning, designing and managing the test design, execution and overall effort for medium to large projects throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) or project lifecycle. Provides senior expertise and leadership to ensure that software quality practices comply with business needs, regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices. Works closely with business owners, development teams, infrastructure teams, vendors and project management throughout the lifecycle to improve overall product quality. Designs, implements and documents testing techniques used to isolate issues regarding functionality, usability, reliability, compatibility and performance. Serves as advisor to various levels of staff and management. Provides on-call support as needed to support after-hours testing needs. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

The Quality Assurance Lead Analyst provides Quality Assurance senior level expertise and leadership for all Quality Assurance efforts. The Lead introduces, develops and enforces best-practice quality assurance standards and measures for all information technology services within the organization. Exempt professionals contribute to the organization through specialized expertise.

  • Validation, verification and enforcement of quality assurance measures and testing standards for developing applications, vendor software, new hardware or configuration changes throughout the development or project lifecycle.
  • Develop and apply established metrics to determine the readiness, quality, and operability of software, hardware, or systems due for release to clients and/or within the enterprise.
  • Ensure that software quality measures comply with regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices.
  • Develop, write and execute test plans and scripts for identifying and tracking defects and fixes in product development, software application development, information systems, and operations systems.
  • Designs testing approach, scope, entry/exit criteria, identifies risks and dependencies and designs test cases for all project types and sizes.
  • Leads initiatives to improve and manage Testing platforms, including controlling access to and refreshment of viable test data for various applications.
  • Educates team in aspects of testing tool usage and mastery through educational presentations, double-teaming during tool usage and one on one support.
  • Introduces, implements, and leads, processes and “best practices" with regard to Quality Management best practices, Quality Assurance testing techniques, processes and measurement.
  • Leads estimation and Master Test Plan Development for medium to large testing efforts.
  • Designs, modifies, implements and executes manual and automated test scripts.
  • Participates in tool evaluation and assessment, training and implementation.
  • Develop, establish and apply new and industry standard metrics to determine the risk, readiness, quality, and operability of software, systems due for release to clients and/or within the enterprise.
  • Creates and communicates test plans, test designs and scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications; and revise as needed.
  • Designs testing approach, scope, entry/exit criteria, identifies risks and dependencies and designs test cases for all project types and sizes.
  • Establishes, enforces and adheres to established methodologies and processes for the collection and analysis of data for ensuring software, systems, and product quality.
  • Leads the analysis of requirements to determine appropriate test design and approach, evaluates formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
  • Direct and support the implementation and ongoing use of test tools and data collection tools.
  • Prepares project test reports and metrics as necessary.
Job Requirements

  • Five plus (5+) years of recent experience as a QA/SQA analyst/engineer in software quality assurance testing
  • Five plus (5+) years experience in developing, executing and documenting results of manual test cases
  • POS/KDS/BOS restaurant or retail systems testing experience preferred
  • JDE Enterprise-One ERP system development, implementation, and/or testing experience preferred
  • Formal training and experience with enterprise testing tools required
  • Formal training in Quality Management methodologies and techniques required
  • Four plus (4+) years experience in SQL scripting required. Knowledge of Visual Basic (Vb) scripting required
  • Test automation and performance testing experience required
Knowledge: (Level of knowledge required to perform the job effectively)
  • Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of leadership and management
  • Advanced professional or theoretical knowledge and fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization in the execution of assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures
  • Intermediate understanding of departmental structure and policies with an intermediate understanding of the cross-functional structure and policies of Whataburger Restaurants LP
  • Intermediate ability to delegate tasks and get work done through others
Professional Certification: (Certificate requirement appropriate to position)
  • Preference given to: Certified International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB); Certified Associate in Software Quality (CASQ); Certified Associate in Software Testing (CAST); Certified Software Business Analyst (CSBA); Certified Software Process Engineer (CSPE); Certified Quantitative Software Process Engineer (CQSPE)
