The Behavioral Health Sitter/Tech is responsible for observing Behavioral Health patients who are assigned monitoring levels 2 or 3. Behavioral Health patients may include patients who are extremely confused, at risk of inadvertent self-harm, status post suicidal ideation, at risk for assaultive behavior, elopement or may demonstrate dangerous and unpredictable behavior. The Sitter/Tech will be responsible for monitoring Behavioral Health patients by camera or direct observation based on assigned level of observation. The primary responsibility of observation staff is patient safety with documented checks every 15 minutes. The Behavioral Health Sitter/Tech Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of CMC.
Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklist. Meets mutually agreed upon performance objectives as outlined on the Performance Management Plan. Understands focus of position without distractions such as reading, texting, talking on the phone or visiting with coworkers.
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Direct contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to irregular work hours and prolonged sitting. Handles emergency or crisis situations professionally, adapting to change as needed. Flexible in meeting the needs of the unit, i.e. change in assignments or work schedule.
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while moving and lifting patients or objects. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Frequently moves supplies and equipment requiring moderate physical effort to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds: employee is required to obtain assistance for lifting more than 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and mobility needed for considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Able to reach above shoulders without difficulty. Able to perform several tasks simultaneously.
RN, LPN, RN Charge Nurse, Administrative Supervisor, ED Nurse Manager, or ED Director
DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED
Minimal. Must be able to work independently.
Must complete CPI training upon hire.
Basic Life Saving (BLS) preferred.
Must be available for 8 hour shifts on standby status with a 30 minute response time to arrive at the hospital for sitter responsibility.
