First International Bank & Trust seeks an experienced mortgage loan underwriter to manage the day to day operations of our growing secondary market mortgage underwriting department.

This position will directly supervise 2-4 mortgage loan underwriters and be responsible for interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Manages other mortgage underwriters in the department, providing managerial support and direction

Reviews pipeline reports and ensuring underwriting volume and customer satisfaction goals are met every month

Writes and adjusts underwriting policies to comply with investor, regulator, and bank policy and procedure.

Performs final review of mortgage loan credit, income, asset and property documents to determine acceptability of documents provided and proper execution of any corresponding calculations.

Assures compliance of loans with guidelines of insuring/guaranteeing entities (FHA, VA, RHS, PMI companies and NDHFA) as well as secondary mortgage market investors (private mortgage companies, FNMA and FHLMC).

Approves or rejects loan applications or requests additional information.

Records loan rejections, specifying investor and institution guidelines and basis for declining application, such as insufficient cash reserves.

Reviews documents in loan files, including acceptance or denial and returns scanned information to originating mortgage loan office.

Assists loan department with training, responds to request for information and assists with other loan duties as needed.

Maintains proper correspondence and legal files.

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; 5+ plus years of related experience in the secondary market underwriting field; or equivalent combination of education and experience as well as demonstrated leadership skills, including successful prior experience in a managerial role required.
