The Systems Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate (SVTAD ) is the central focus for integration, test and validation activities within IDS. More than 700 employees of SVTAD provide the expertise to ensure customer success through the development and execution of innovative and comprehensive test, verification, and validation strategies, processes, tools and techniques. SVTAD employees are involved in all aspects of test including: design-for-test, integration, subsystem and component level testing through sell-off of IDS’ most sophisticated systems and technologies.
Zumwalt Shipboard Operations, Test Engineer and DDG 1000 Administrative Support Engineer
The Zumwalt Program Shipboard Test Team (STT) within the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Department and resident in Bath, ME, is responsible for activation and test of the Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure (TSCEi) network and of the Ship Control System (SCS) during the Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) activation phase of DDG 1000. IDS is located at the Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Our work scope includes grooming procedure development, shipboard industrial stage test procedure development, software installation and activation, hardware grooming and activation, and validation of each system using approved shipboard stage test procedures. We also are responsible for all of the administrative functions the support documenting and managing the tasks above.
Responsibilities:
In this position, the candidate is expected to;
Modification of the Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) database to be compatible with the Integrated Verification Database (IVD)
Importing test procedures and supporting documentation to the IVD
Adjudication and incorporation of customer comments in the test procedures
Finalizing test procedures for conduct shipboard and as the baseline for the next ship in the class
Daily communication with government and shipyard engineers
Safety of the STT
Administrative support and accommodations for off-site personnel who will travel to the shipyard to support the STT
The Shipboard Operations Test Engineer and the Administrative Support Engineer will be responsible for configuration management of all test procedures, gathering information to support development and reporting of metrics and ensuring that TSCEi and SCS personnel understand the test procedure release process. These positions will require a basic knowledge of the DOORS database, an in-depth knowledge of the IVD, learning how to navigate through the entire ship to find pertinent equipment, and will require hands-on participation during HM&E testing.
WSTR development, tracking and disposition with the Issue Resolution Management Board
The position will also require communicating with Navy stakeholders in the development of program power point presentation packages to support regular waterfront test team meetings and other technical reviews.
Ability to perform normal climbing and lifting associated with shipboard electronic work
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or related major OR 8 years applicable experience in lieu of a BS degree
Eight (8+) years of technical engineering experience and willingness to learn
Strong data analysis skills, with application to military systems
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Access and Project
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of shipyard daily operations
Familiarity with test planning and conduct
Experience with participation in Configuration Control Boards
Shipboard experience on a US Navy or commercial ship, or experience in the pre-commissioning of a naval vessel
Basic understanding of the DOORS database
Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one
Strong written, verbal and listening skills
Communication Skills (i.e. experience presenting to internal & external customers utilizing PowerPoint or other presentation tools)
Ability to perform work on board a naval vessel under construction and during trial periods at sea. Prior experience working in this environment would be an advantage.
