The University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus is accepting applications for a full-time Lecturer I, II or III, Developmental Studies in Mathematics, a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track position. The position begins August 12, 2013. Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,000 each semester. Summary of duties and responsibilities: This is a full-time, 12-month position. Duties and responsibilities include classroom instruction and advising mathematics developmental studies students primarily, but not exclusively, in learning communities. Maintain student attendance, scholastic and advising records. Prepare assignments and exams to ensure mathematics developmental studies students are assessed assisted in course selection and coursework to succeed in college. Take lead in creation of final exams and assist the Mathematics Developmental Studies Coordinator in evaluating program and curriculum. Participate in overall coordination with Student Services and Transitional Studies -- Learning Community staff. Educate the college community about program goals and benefits. Participate in campus faculty committees.
- BA in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or closely related field. - Demonstrated teaching excellence. - Two years teaching experience.
- MA/S in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or closely related field. - Two years teaching experience teaching mathematics at the college level. - Documented teaching excellence in mathematics developmental studies instruction (Adult Education or Math 098, 099, 100). - Experience with computer-assisted instruction. - Experience working with diverse populations. - Experience working with learning communities. - Collegial attitude.
