This position is in the Air Force Global Strike Command.

The mission of the Air Force Global Strike Command is to develop and provide safe, secure and credible combat-ready forces for nuclear deterrence and global strike operations to support the President of the United States and combatant commanders.

The primary purpose of position is to serve as a firefighter assigned to crew engaged in structural

firefighting, rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician and to respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release.

Performs hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis.

Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities.

Performs rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility.

Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.

Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner than enhances the safety of the work environment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-06) or equivalent.

Specialized experience must include using Knowledge of basic and specailized structural firefighting equipement, techniques, and procedures; and of basic and speialized building design, construction and occupancy.

Federal Time-In-Grade

(TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions:
Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-06 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.

The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.

Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm systems operation, fire extinguishing equipment operations, etc.) techniques, and procedures; and basic and specialized building design , construction, and occupancy.

2.

Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions.

3.

Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards regulations, and/or technical orders.

4.

Skills in operation communications equipment.

5.

Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift carry heavy loads.

6.

Ability to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply emergency first aid techniques.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:

education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

1.

Employee must participate in mandatory physical fitness program.

2.

Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

3.

The employee is required to work a 72 hour week on a 24 hour on/24hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays.

May be subject to recall.

4.

This is a testing Designated Position.

The employee is subject to random drug testing (in accordance with HQ-USAF letter dated 29 Jan 90).

5.

This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

6.

The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle.

An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.

7.

Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

8.

May be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC).

9.

Employee is required to be Department of Defense (DOD) certified Firefighter 1 & Firefighter II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, and HAZMAT Technician (under NFPA standards adopted by DOD), DoD First Responder (Medical) and may be required to become an EMT-B.

10.

Special retirement provisions Authority:
Special retirement coverage is pending.

When approved one of the following apply.

FERS - Position covered as rigorous under the FERS special retirement provisions for Federal Firefighters {5 USC 8401(14).

5 USC 8412(d) and 5CFT 842.802} pending

Or

CSRS - Position covered as primary position under the CSRS special Retirement provisions for Federal firefighters (5USC 8331(21), 5 USC 833(c ) and 5CFR 842.802. Authority Pending

11.

The employee must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

12.

This may be designated a “key” position in accordance with agency requirements.
