Job Posting Summary

Work in conjunction with the Math department and the Student Success Center to provide enhanced services to both the college and the Sitka community.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.

--Ability to explain math concepts to students --Effective communicator --Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills to persons of diverse backgrounds --Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures --Beyond entry level computer skills

Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).

--Must have completed college mathematics through college algebra (Math 107) with a grade of "B" or higher --One year college coursework in related field and one year relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

--Completion of statistics --Prior tutoring experience --Bachelors degree in math or math extensive subject --Advanced computer skills --Knowledge of development methods and ability to create new programs/trainings/seminars --Ability to adopt new technologies to better enhance the math initiative and serve our distance and local students --Ability to conduct and evaluate trainings and seminars --Ability to evaluate different programs to enhance math development skills and the Student Success Center --Ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds with different skill levels

Job Duties


--Tutoring UAS-Sitka students, local and distance, from pre-algebra to college algebra using various technologies and resources
--Serve as facilitator for the various math resources developed by the college
--Perform outreach to students to help engage them in the various resources available for math remediation at UAS

Program Development:
--Work closely with Title III Math Specialist exploring new ways to help improve math completion rates in developmental courses
--Develop remediation program and techniques to better place and prepare students for college level math courses
--Explore new technology tools with writing assistant, testing coordinator, and student success manager to better tutor distance students

Community Development:
--Work with various community agencies to help improve math efforts to prepare students for college/careers by providing classes and resources to build stronger relationships with UAS and the community
--Provide tutoring/coaching to community members in the GED and adult education program to help prepare community members for college or enhance current math skills

--Assist with course testing proctoring for UA courses and other outside agencies.
--Administer testing according to instructions provided by instructors and/or outside agencies.
--Examiner for national testing offered on campus which includes test administration, security, training other examiners, ensuring security.
