The Family Support Counselor I is responsible for implementing a community-based prevention effort for at-risk families. This may include Center-based case management, parent education and counseling, in-home training of parenting and home safety skills, parent education classes, youth and adult support groups, family activities, youth development activities, event support, and linking families to needed resources within the community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prevention Efforts

Conduct face-to-face family assessments; recommend specific prevention program

Educate families and individuals at the Magnolia Place Center and in-home

Teach and model parenting skills

C onduct parent education classes

Facilitate youth and adult support groups

Coordinate/conduct family and youth development activities

Assist families in identifying/reaching appropriate community resources

Identify and help develop “parent leaders” for management of support and self help groups

2. Documentation

Maintain case files and notes, (including releases, etc.)

M aintain Work and Activity Sheets, statistics, court reports/letters, as required

3. Community

Maintain high profile in the community

Maintain/provide current resource referrals within the community

Develop/maintain effective working relations with all individuals and agencies impacting programs within the community

Assist Program Supervisor with developing and implementing community programs

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services/Behavioral Sciences from an accredited university

1-3 years of s uccessful experience working with families, children and/or parents, crisis intervention skills highly preferred

Bilingual English/Spanish is Required

Valid CA Driver's License, Automobile Insurance & Reliable Transportation

Ability to use diagnostic skills to make assessments

Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

Evening and weekend availability required
