The Engineering IT team seeks a highly motivated Software Engineer to join the team responsible for the development, support, and administration of next generation documentation tools. These include native XML authoring tools and other applications that will leverage Cisco’s enterprise content management system (CMS) to deliver new applications and services to all content creators across the company.
The Engineering IT team provides technology leadership and innovation through active participation in industry standards bodies and through close partnerships with business units across Cisco.
Periodic (compensated) on-call rotation and out-of-regular-working-hours support may be required. Be part of the Cisco organization that is driving the evolution and expansion into new technology areas and market segments. The ideal candidate willl demonstrate a passion for software development, especially in Java technologies and web services.
The software engineer will be part of an engaged team of engineers, and must be a string team player.
Required skills include:
Demonstrated development of software with proficiency in several programming languages, specifically Java technologies, JavaScript, XML
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
Model, View, Controller design
Algorithms and Object Oriented design
Web Services (REST and SOAP and mashups)
Understand and evaluate new advances in software development
Demonstrated interest in Open Source software development
Experience with software development tools such as SCM, debuggers, profiling, automated testing
Desired Skills:
Proven experience in development using Java programming for tool integration and customized extensions is required.
Experience in XML, XSL (XSL-FO, Xpath, XSLT) and other web skills such as Javascript and CSS is desired.
Experience building custom DTDs and or schemas, and rendering that XML into PDF and HTML through XSL is desired. Experience working with the DITA XML standard and customization of the DITA open toolkit is desired.
Content management (CMS) experience using XML and other related technologies is desired. Hands-on experience with the Documentum platform is desired.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a system-level focus while understanding the impact of every component.
Broad knowledge of and exposure to content management strategies and best practices, XML standards, and web publishing technologies.
Broad knowledge of Localization technologies and their intersection with content management tools.
Typically requires MSEE/CS combined with 3-5 years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 5-7+ yrs related experience.
PDS is a part of the Corporate Development Office Operations organization. CDO OPS defines, designs, develops, and delivers innovative software and systems solutions to support evolving network architectures and IT requirements. CDO provides technology leadership and innovation through active participation in industry standards bodies and through close partnerships with business units across Cisco.
Desired Skills:
