This position is located in the Divers Life Support Maintenance Facility of a Special Operations Forces Equipment Pool (SOFEP). The purpose of the position is to perform maintenance, accountability, storage, pre-operational testing, and post operational maintenance of underwater closed and opened circuit gas systems, and related equipment.

EXCEPTED POSITION: Alabama Army National Guard membership is required.

DUTIES:
ALABAMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Alabama Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Alabama Army National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION FOR ALABAMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD POSITIONS:
AREA ONE : All permanent Alabama Army National Guard civilian excepted technicians currently employed.
AREA TWO : All drill status/M-day personnel in the Alabama Army National Guard.
AREA THREE : All U.S. Citizens or individuals eligible for membership in the Alabama Army National Guard.
(1) Provides dive operations maintenance support during training exercises and actual operations serving as on-site technical specialist and advisor. Assists personnel with fitting and adjustment of open-circuit and closed-circuit breathing apparatus.
(2) Inspects, overhauls, modifies, fits, assembles, repair and replace various types of dive equipment and dive systems such as: harness assembly, demand valve, oxygen cylinders and bottles, CO2 cylinder manifolds and reserve “J” valve, supply valve, rotary valve, O-rings, breathing bag and fiberglass components.
(3) Cleans pneumatic assembly and all components associated with oxygen service utilizing oxygen safe cleaning procedures. Cleans and sterilizes SCUBA breathing apparatus.
(4) Tests configuration setup, pressure gage, pressure regulator. Performs hydrostatic tests on oxygen cylinders.
(5) Charges oxygen bottles. Removes oxygen cylinder and supply valve assembly and records oxygen cylinder pressure.
(6) Complies with Reentry Control (REC) procedures and documentation requirements. Performs pre-dive setup and check.
(7) Inventories and issues dive equipment to using units. Provides technical assistance for dive operations. Operates motor vehicles up to and including tractor trailer combinations to deliver dive equipment to users.
(8) Performs organizational and limited direct support maintenance on outboard moters. Services, overhauls, inspects, tests, repairs and replaces components on outboard motors and outdrives.
(9) Performs organizational maintenance on rubber boats, checks boat compartments, replaces or repairs valves and replaces metal, rubber and rope parts. Performs preventative services.
(10) Adheres to all DOD and OHSA hazardous material and safety rules, regulations and requirements. Ensures conformance to technical specifications during maintenance and that certified systems maintain technical specifications.
(11) Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Each applicant must fully substantiate (in his/her own words) that he/she meets the requirements of the specialized experience listed below; Otherwise, the applicant will be considered unqualified for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to repair and maintain electrical, mechanical or pneumatic components assemblies, and devices. Candidates must have knowledge of arithmetic and a fundamental knowledge of electrical principles.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training repairing, calibrating, maintaining, overhauling, testing and rebuilding multicomponent and precision measurement equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining remedies in a variety of instruments and equipment usually containing a number of subassemblies and devices to ensure the functional and mechanical integrity of equipment serviced. Experience interpreting technical manuals, specifications, illustrations, blueprints, diagrams and schematics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-- Must have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, test, and calibrate a variety of instruments and equipment related to underwater dive equipment.
-- Must have a thorough knowledge for a wide range of complex underwater breathing equipment and of dive procedures.
-- Applies sound judgment in the selection of repair techniques and achieving specified accuracies and tolerances.
-- Must be able to interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical documents while repairing, testing, and calibrating equipment. Also, specific to the type of equipment repaired and serviced.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION IS NOT CONSIDERED FOR WAGE GRADE POSITIONS.

COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to and qualify in a compatible military position. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technical school training in a military status.
Compatible Military Assignment: ECMF: 00F Applicants do not have to possess this MOS/AOC to be certified as qualified.
