Minimum Education and Experience:

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited at the Advanced Competency Level under the career banding program. The hiring range for the Advanced Level is $40,126 - $44,054. The salary grade equivalent for this position is 62.
Housekeeping Services is committed to fostering a culture of civility and respect for its diverse workforce and is seeking supervisory employees who strive to nurture excellence and promote collegiality in their employees. Housekeeping Services is comprised of a staff of more than 400 employees, who provide 24 hour service by providing daily cleaning service and floor care for approximately 245 buildings on campus. The Zone Manager is responsible for organizing and managing the daily cleaning operation of a group of facilities, including the University Dental School and is responsible for supervising about 20 housekeepers. The Zone Manager must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with their employees orally and in writing about work assignments, work performance and adherence to workplace rules as well as perform quality inspections of employee work. The Zone Manager must be knowledgeable of federal personnel policies and management practices appropriate to a high-functioning workforce. The Zone Manager must be knowledgeable of proper cleaning techniques and safety requirements and is responsible for training housekeepers in these areas. The Zone Manager must be able to organize work and work schedules, manage the supply inventory for the group, and operate within available supply limits. The Zone Manager is the primary contact with the group's University customers (faculty, staff, students, and visitors) and must be committed to outstanding customer service and be able to communicate effectively and positively with these clients orally and in writing. This position is required to report to work in the event of an adverse weather event or public health emergency. This position requires on-call duty on a rotating basis for weekends and holidays approximately every twenty weeks. Overtime and alternate work schedules or shifts may be required based on business needs. Applicant must possess a valid NC Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five years supervisory experience, to include at least one year of supervisory experience in institutional housekeeping, preferably in an academic or medical/hospital environment. Experience applying Federal and State OSHA standards and personnel policies. Experience in appropriately applying North Carolina employment policies in managing State workers. Knowledge and skills in team cleaning processes.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:
Physical effort typical of other positions in housekeeping services may be expected, such as moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, and operating cleaning equipment.
