This position will work directly with the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), Virginia Dam Safety Program as a Dam Safety Engineer/Modeler and will report to the Division Director of Dam Safety and Floodplain Management or Delegate. This position will perform Dam Break Inundation Studies for Low Hazard Dams utilizing FEMAâ??s GeoDam-BREACH program and the Army Corps of Engineers HEC-HMS or HEC-1 program and related duties. This position will work as a team with a GIS Specialist counterpart to create the inundation mapping and verify the Low Hazard Classification of modeled dams.
A masterâ??s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering or related discipline. A bachelorâ??s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering or related discipline may be consider in lieu of the advanced degree with a combination of training and experience necessary to perform the job tasks with a high level of proficiency. A demonstrated knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, and development of dam breach parameters is required. GIS and HEC-1/HEC-HMS software proficiency is required. Working well with minimal supervision, interacting professionally with others, and the ability to communicate effectively, is a must. Virginia driverâ??s license and a safe driving record are required.
Experience with FLO-2D is plus. Prior experience in Dam Break Modeling utilizing HEC software is preferred.
