Cisco seeks an embedded software development engineer to work in the Internet-Protocol TV (IPTV) Settop development team. The focus of the team is the delivery of drivers and firmware for Microsoft Mediaroom settops. The required skill set includes C/C++ programming, driver design, software integration and debugging. Desirable traits include experience with WinCE, settop software development, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with partner engineering teams. Experience with 802.11 wireless technology is of particular interest.
The IPTV settops are designed around system-on-chip (SOC) devices that integrate the bulk of TV-centric functionality into a single component. Peripheral devices, such as hard-discs, tuners, smartcards, wireless interfaces, etc., are included in the settop as separate physical devices. The candidate's responsibilities will include designing, writing, and maintain the drivers for many of these devices. In particular, 802.11 wireless functionality is an important feature that is leading to significant changes in the settop business, influencing how services are managed and deployed, and how the hardware and software stacks are architected. The candidate is expected to develop a good understanding of the IPTV system outside of the settop box, and to assume technical ownership of projects.
The position is located on the Cisco campus in San Jose, but a significant amount of time will be spent working closely with the Microsoft development team in Mountain View. As such, the candidate will represent Cisco in front of partners and customers.
