Specific Job Description
Develops and implements all the short and long range strategic planning for the Utilities Department across all three stations including Capital Equipment Replacement and Overhaul of equipment assigned.
This position coordinates with the Facilities Engineering Manager for the strategic planning, development and execution of Annual Operating Budget for the Utilities Department. Coordinates the daily activities of the Utilities Department with the McMurdo Power Plant supervisor, the SPole Station Ops Mgr and the Palmer Facilities Engineer.
Monitors water production facilities to meet water quality standards and waste water treatment plant at McMurdo, South Pole and Palmer stations to meet Antarctic treaty standards.
Works closely with the Controls, Energy and Power Plant engineers to maximize waste heat capture and delivery to the station and minimize fuel consumption thus ensuring efficient and economical operation of station power and water production plant.
Performs root cause analysis of equipment and system failures with Controls and Power Plant engineer and acts to correct system deficiencies through the management of change (CCR) process to correct and prevent future recurrences.
Upholds the management of change process for all civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and software systems.
Oversees the resupply process to assure adequate and accurate restocking of consumables and replacement parts.
Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments and supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, effected by this position’s work activities.
Files status reports on schedule and metrics regarding the state of operations in power and water plants.
Provides leadership and works with department supervisors and their assigned staffs; establishes performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development; makes decisions on compensation and other rewards to recognize performance; takes or recommends disciplinary action, up to and including termination, to address performance deficiencies, in accordance with Company policy and rules.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
