The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for an Equipment Repair Technician position in the Communications Division at the State Police Headquarters in Chesterfield County. This is a Non-Exempt position; therefore, this position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
DUTIES: Prepares new vehicles by installing police, communications and other electronic equipment. Diagnoses, repairs and services a variety of vehicles. Calibrates speedometers. Removes components from wrecked vehicles. Removes equipment from surplus vehicles. Repairs and refurbishes police, communications and other electronic equipment for installation in other vehicles. Tows disabled and wrecked vehicles using a rollback carrier. Provides courteous service and assists with transporting vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated knowledge of the installation of police, communications, and other electronic equipment. Demonstrated skill to diagnose, repair and service motor vehicles; and to use shop, woodworking and mechanic's hand tools. Demonstrated ability to operate a rollback type car carrier; to read and comprehend manuals and other written documents; and to lift 100 pounds without assistance. Must possess a valid driver's license. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of experience and training in the electrical/ electronic/ automobile field may substitute for educational requirement. Virginia State Inspection certification preferred.
Applicants must live in states east of the Mississippi. Military applicants must live in or home of record must be in one of the states east of the Mississippi.
