Summary Description: The Tax Senior Manager in the Bethesda office manages the daily technical and administrative elements of client relationships, supervise and develop Managers, Seniors and Staff, and frequently serve as the tax signer on compliance engagements, as well as proactively participating in practice development activities. They are familiar with a broad range of tax and financial concepts and possess in-depth knowledge regarding the tax technical rules applicable to high net worth individuals and businesses that range in revenue and industries across the DC metropolitan area.
Responsibilities:
Essential Responsibilities & Functions:
Technical
Responsible for technical accuracy of basic business tax returns, including Forms 1120, 1120S and 1065 which are delivered under their signature or that of a Principal or Partner
Responsible for technical accuracy of complex individual and other tax returns, including Forms 1040 & 1041 , which are delivered under their signature or that of a Principal or Partner
Identifies issues for further research or discussion with client or Principal/Partner and can formulate conclusions as to the resolution of the issue based on analysis of clients facts and applicable laws and regulations
Responsible for adherence to Argy quality control procedures and file documentation procedures for technical tax positions taken on returns or other client deliverables which are delivered under their signature
Client Service
Schedules and runs client meetings with or without a Principal or Partner present
Interacts directly with clients and their advisors by phone, email or in person, and serves as the primary point of contact
Identifies tax planning and consulting opportunities for client during performance of daily client activities and identifies opportunities for the firm to provide additional services to clients
Serves as a technical resource for others within Argy on individual tax related matters including assistance with consulting and compliance projects
Administrative
Proactively communicates project expectations and budgets with Tax Staff, Seniors and Managers and monitors progress of staff on assigned projects
Proactively communicates the status of assigned projects to Principals/Partners and requests assistance from others when needed
Proactively assists Principals/Partners with administrative responsibilities including client billing, monitoring and follow up of client receivables, timely submission of daily time and expense reports, and timely preparation and delivery of staff evaluations
Participates in training as an attendee and as a co-presenter
Participates in firm recruitment process including interviewing candidates
Participates and/or proactively initiates practice development activities such scheduling meetings with prospects and referral sources, participates in firm sponsored events and participates in proposal preparation and delivery
Professional Growth
Stays current with federal and state tax law changes and attends 40 hours of continuing professional education classes annually including those necessary to maintain all credentials in good standing
Develops relationships with others in the community to establish network of personal referral sources and works with Principals/Partners to maintain relationships with existing Argy referral sources and clients

Works under the direct supervision of a Principal or Partner
Tax Senior Managers are assigned a mentor and may participate in third party sponsored management and development training in addition to technical training coursework
Leadership Exercised:
Tax Senior Managers assist the Principal or Partner in defining the scope and budget of a project, supervise the daily work of a project, review staff work product and provide formal and informal evaluation of staff performance at the end of a project
Tax Senior Managers may be delegated the authority to plan engagements and provide fee quotes, approve invoices and deliver technical work products to clients with the consent of the Principal or Partner assigned to the client
Tax Senior Managers are expected to be team players and contribute to the motivation and morale of others within the group and the firm
Knowledge - Skills & Abilities:
Technical and Software
General accounting knowledge and advanced income tax knowledge including experience with concepts applicable to businesses of varying revenues and high net worth individuals
Knowledge of rules and regulations governing tax preparers including substantial authority and ethical considerations for the practice of public accounting and knowledge of Argy quality control procedures
General understanding of financial planning concepts including intermediate to advanced knowledge of the financial markets, asset classes, modern portfolio theory and types of insurance
Experience with Prosystems and BNA Tax planner preferred
Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and tax research tools

Ability to identify material missing information and/or facts and to communicate project scope and deliverables efficiently and effectively to Tax Staff, Seniors and Managers
Ability to manage oneself and others so that tasks are completed accurately and effectively within a reasonable amount of time with minimal daily supervision by Principal/Partner

Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field
Active Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA), Juris Doctorate (JD) or Enrolled Agent (EA) required
Minimum six (highly relevant) years relevant U.S. public or private accounting of experience
Minimum five years of supervisory experience
