Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician and by prescription, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to access, manage and update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information System.
Reads prescription and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages in order to assist the physician and flag the patient’s chart.
Appropriate administration of all IV medication including the application of age specific competencies; implementation of technique and proper patient communication.

Determines the most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician's orders.
Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature
Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs and arterial blood gases.
Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises.
Performs pulmonary function tests.
Assists physicians in bronchoscopy procedures.
Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.
Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions.
Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.
Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Orders repairs when needed.
Ensures that appropriate equipment and supplies are available in respiratory stock areas, and supply room to ensure that proper resources are available at all times.
Cleans and assembles equipment to ensure that equipment is available at all times.
Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.
Demonstrates competency to perform routine therapeutics and diagnostics on neonates, infants, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients such as: Patient assessment, oxygen administration, incentive spirometry, updraft aerosol, peak flows, IPPB, IPV, sputum inductions, suctioning, EKG, Holtor, and chest physiotherapy with knowledge and skill level commensurate of a RRT.
Administers the drugs used in CardioPulmonary Services at a skill level commensurate of RRT.
Responds to "Code Blue" immediately and establishes set procedures.
Able to perform a satisfactory amount of treatments for a given shift.
Able to efficiently plan assigned treatment load so that treatments are given as scheduled and established treatment load standard can be met.
Demonstrates competency and performs ventilatory management at a skilled level that applies to all of the following patient categories; neonate, infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Demonstrates competency and performs arterial blood gas collection and interpretation at a skilled level.
Assures and demonstrates competence and performs special procedures on neonates, infants, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients such as: ventilatory parameters, optimal PEEP, hypothermia set up and monitoring, mask CPAP/BiPAP set up and monitoring, sleep studies set up, monitoring, and retrieval, TCM set up and monitoring, EtCO2 set up and monitoring, intra and extra hospital transport, extubation, assist in intubation, monitoring correct placement, cuff pressures, and securing trach and endotracheal tubes.
Accurately passes on pertinent information to the following shift.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) from two-year College or technical school; or a combination of education, experience, and Registry through the NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care).
