This is routine work involved in the handling of stock in a warehouse or storage facility. Incumbents in this occupational class perform duties involved in receiving, sorting, storing, issuing, and shipping various item or materials. The work includes unloading carrier vehicles; assembling, packing, and arranging items for shipment; keeping simple records; and labeling items in accordance with established procedures. The work is usually performed under the direct supervision of a warehouse clerk or other employee of a higher occupational class. Supervision may be exercised over laborers or inmates assigned to the facility. Specific instructions are generally received on all non-routine matters.

Examples of Work:
Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:

Receives, unpacks, sacks, sorts, and stores a wide variety of materials, supplies, and/or equipment in proper storage places.

Assembles, packs, and arranges items for shipment or disbursement.

Repacks damaged cases.

Labels cases for shipment.

Fills orders for specific items; fills-split case orders.

Takes inventory of stock on hand.

Verifies stock against invoices, trade tickets, bills of lading, or purchase orders.

Serves as a public representative.

Maintains and compiles simple records of disbursed materials, supplies, and/or equipment.

Performs custodial work to maintain general orderliness and cleanliness of the storage area.

Operates lifting and moving equipment.

Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
These minimum qualifications have been agreed upon by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in this job class and are based upon a job analysis and the essential functions. However, if a candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Any request to substitute related education or experience for minimum qualifications must be addressed to the State Personnel Board in writing, identifying the related education and experience which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform all essential functions of the position.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED);

AND

Experience:
Six (6) months of experience related to the described duties.

Substitution Statement:
Related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.

Essential Functions:
Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring agency. The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Handles stock in warehouse.

2. Maintains accurate records.

3. Operates warehouse equipment.

4. Performs custodial work/maintains orderliness and cleanliness.

5. Serves as public representative.
