The Requirements
Although holding a master’s degree or CPA isn’t a requirement for this role, the ideal candidate for this position should be interested in pursuing a higher degree or professional certification down the line. This role serves as a platform to grow into managerial and leadership roles throughout the company, so a willingness to pursue one or the other will be important for future success and growth.

Specifically, to be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

A minimum of 5-6 years of progressive experience in accounting; preferably general accounting with internal control experience in the chemical industry.

Previous managerial experience.

A strong background in accounting theory with demonstrated competence and a good understanding of branch accounting.

SAP experience and/or familiarity with another similar major ERP system.

Proficiency in Excel and other PC applications.

Proven analytical, problem solving, and process improvement abilities.

Experience with multiple corporate entities, consolidations and non-controlling interests.

A self-starter mentality with the ability to perform with minimal supervision.

A dedication towards results and continuous improvement.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with various levels of management.

The Role
Reporting to the Financial Control Manager, as the Division Lead Accountant, you will oversee a variety of accounting activities to support the Alkali Chemicals Division and Industrial Chemicals Group. You will be heavily involved in the month-end close, reporting, monthly forecasting and much more, and we’ll also look to you to serve as the resident expert on our consolidations system. You will also help support and implement improvement changes to accounting processes as appropriate, which will include improving efficiency and performance of the department by continually utilizing SAP software and other business applications to the fullest extent, as well as streamlining existing business processes.

Depending on your experience and skill set, you may oversee one direct report, the Accounting Clerk, who performs most of the routine transactional requirements for the ICG Headquarters. Functioning as the liaison between plant and Division, Group and Corporate management, you will also work closely with the Manufacturing location in Green River, Wyoming, the Corporate Accounting and Consolidations group, Cost Center Managers, Customer Service and various other departments and leaders throughout FMC.

On an ongoing basis, you will:
Maintain the accounting records for the Alkali Chemicals Division and Industrial Chemicals Group Headquarters, including, but not limited to, proper financial statement line item and legal entity classification, swaps, customer rebates, sales taxes, and intercompany accounts including cash.

Handle reporting of monthly results as required by Division, Group and Corporate, with primary responsibility for submitting results into consolidation system and generating reports, as well as foreign currency hedge reporting requirements.

Coordinating month-end closes in compliance with GAAP, Corporate Financial Standards and FMC Wyoming Joint Venture Agreement.

Responsible for monthly account reconciliations and variance analysis.

Assist in annual budget preparation.

Assist in monthly financial forecasts.

Be involved in business process improvement teams.

Provide financial support to Marketing department.

Provide assistance and insight into Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and reporting, particularly in the "Financial Reporting" section.

Keys to Success
To excel in this role, you’ll need to have a good enough understanding of the business to be able to determine whether our financial statements are correctly stated. Taking insight from meetings and reports, you will use the information you have on hand to raise a red flag if something doesn’t look correct and take the appropriate action to find out where the discrepancy may be. You’ll need to be confident and have the interpersonal finesse to question the status quo, and have the ability to gather information from various departments from your reporting and analysis. Strong problem solving and communication skills will be essential to find success in this role.

We’re also looking for someone who has the theoretical and business understanding to be able to pick up whatever piece of the pie we need to give them – whether that is selling and administrative expenses or inventory and costs of goods sold.
