The position provides support to TIAA-CREF's Investment Company & Investment Advisers legal group. This position would assist a team of lawyers and legal assistants in issues related to the TIAA-CREF Fund Complex and its advisers, including maintaining and updating disclosure documents provided to shareholders and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This position will also include supporting the launch of new products, maintenance of foreign investment authorizations and the expansion of product distribution.
RESPONSIBILITIES include assisting the Investment Company and Investment Advisers legal group with respect to:
Maintaining correct and compliant disclosure for various investment products;
Coordinating with a disclosure team of lawyers and legal assistants to address new
regulations and circumstances that could affect disclosure;
Working with external and internal sources to launch new products and implement new
distribution channels;
Researching issues related to investment management and securities law; and
Assisting lawyers with various tasks as needed, such as making foreign investment
filings.
Bachelor's degree;
Working understanding of corporate/securities law is a plus;
Financial services industry experience and a working understanding of
corporate/securities issues is a plus-experience related to mutual funds or
other investment products is an even greater plus;
Prior experience as a legal assistant is helpful, but not a pre-requisite;
Strong attention to detail and responsiveness and ability to take the initiative;
Ability to prioritize and handle numerous competing demands in a high-volume, fast-
paced work environment, frequently under urgent deadlines;
Ability to work independently and as a team-ability to work with people directly and
indirectly;
Should possess professional manner and judgment to enable him/her to work with
colleagues in the department, as well as clients elsewhere in the company; and
Excellent computer skills.
Position level - Paralegal / Senior Paralegal will be filled based on experience.
