Seeking a very skilled linux sysadmin. ## You must send a cover letter explaining how you meet our core needs. About Us: DriverSide is a rapidly growing, venture-backed company in San Francisco that provides automotive ownership services to consumers and larger players in the automotive industry. We're a small (< 30), very lean and efficient group of talented developers, designers, product people, etc looking to expand our engineering group as the business expands.

Our ranks include ex Google, KBB, Yahoo, etc and our founders have successfully built business that have been aquired by Microsft and Intuit over the past 10 years. Core Needs: 1. Demonstrable Linux chops - This means you know NIS/LDAP, Nagios/Munin/similar, BASH/Python, Apache/Nginx, and preferably prefer the Fedora/Centos/RHEL/Amazon-linux flavor. Knowing only Ubuntu/Debian is possibly OK, if you have a ton of chops.

An RHCE or RHCSA certification will go a long way to getting you an interview. Bonus points for knowing mod_security really well. 2. Cisco/Networking Skills - A CCNA would be nice, but not required if you can prove you have chops here as well.

Again, you must prove you have chops, and that means you have worked in Cisco IOS via CLI only, and can pass interview questions about such. 3. Mysql Server knowledge - Must know the fundamentals of Mysql Server administration, preferably in replication- based environments. Would prefer you have a clear understanding of the two main types of replication (and know why that matters), and also know how to use command line tools to parse query logs (and/or binary logs).

Must know at least one of the two below extremely well -- 1. Must understand running a fully virtualized environment (Xenserver, VMware, or KVM) on your own hardware, preferably you did every piece of this, from perimeter networking equipment, to core switches (and ran specific VLANS for DMZ, production, staging, etc.. ) , to virtualization platform, to core linux distro deployment and administration. 2.

Or you have built an environment like listed above (in 1), but in AWS. That means you know how to create /24s in the /16 block of the VPC address space, and you understand why you would create individual /24s. You would also understand how to push routes, build and route via a NAT instance. You would also know why choices between different Amazon regions and availability zones are important, both logically and cost-wise.

You know how to roll your own AMIs, understand how to use the command line ec2 tools, and preferably have some chef or puppet skills. Education/Certifications - A BS in Computer Science or Information Technology would be nice. It's not preferred though, what is preferred is that you have the chops listed above. Certifications - I only care about three certifications for this job, and they are only needed to separate you from otherwise equal candidates or make up for a deficiency in job experience.

Those certifications are CCNA (or above) and the RHCE/RHCSA certs. Come with a recent CCNA and a redhat cert and you are far more likely to get an interview. Perks: * Work in a laid-back but fast-paced environment with a very friendly and talented team, building innovative web- based products * We are in a great neighborhood in San Francisco (Jackson Square/Embarcadero) * Costco runs! * Plenty of room to grow as our business expands
