Positions in this function are responsible for case management and utilization review of behavioral health and substance abuse services. Includes authorization, concurrent review, and coordination and assurance of appropriate levels of care to members. Provides case management services through review and evaluation of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health treatments for medical necessity, emergency status, and quality of care. Employees in this function must have a valid clinical license (i.e., CSW, MFCC) and have a Master's degree in counseling, psychology or social work or are registered nurses (RN) with psychology specialty. Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed. Works with less structured, more complex issues. Serves as a resource to others.

Responsibilities for a Behavioral Care Advocate include: Â
· Making patient assessments and determining appropriate levels of care Â
· Obtaining information from providers on outpatient requests for treatment Â
· Determining if additional clinical treatment sessions are needed Â
· Managing inpatient and outpatient mental health cases throughout the entire treatment plan Â
· Administering benefits and reviewing treatment plans Â
· Coordinating benefits and transitions between various areas of care Â
· Identifying ways to add value to treatment plans and consulting with facility staff or outpatient care providers on those ideas

Requirements Â
· Licensed Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling, or Licensed Ph.D., or an RN with 2 or more years of experience in behavioral health. Â
· Licenses must be active and unrestricted Â
· 2 years of experience in a related mental health environment Â
· Basic Microsoft Word skills
Additional Preferred Assets Â
· Inpatient experience Â
· Dual diagnosis experience with mental health and substance abuse Â
· Experience working in an environment that required coordination of benefits and utilization of multiple groups and resources for patients Â
· MCO experience
