Ground floor opportunity to contribute your technical skills to the creation of our new site(s). Looking for DBAs with a strong point of view regarding scalability, database structure and best practices in database administration. You will work closely with our developers, systems administrators and our CTO to architect, build, implement, maintain, optimize and scale all aspects of our database systems. Great opportunity for someone who thrives in an environment where you will be making operational, system design and capacity planning decisions every day.
Some of what you’ll do…
Implement procedures for database design, capacity planning, security, recoverability and accessibility
Lead in the monitoring and tuning of database system performance
Plan and implement backup strategies and high availability schemes.
Assist in the migration from an outdated schema design to new schemas being designed and built.
Drive decisions regarding replication strategies and query optimization
Work with systems support to guide the installation and testing of new versions of database versions and related software products
Significant experience managing complex production database systems. Ideally, at a large, consumer-facing Internet site
Expert with MySQL: server tuning, query optimization, replication strategies, storage engines, monitoring, capacity planning, and backup. Knowledge of explain plans.
Comfortable with system tools (iostat, lsof, etc.) and you have a favorite file-system
Passion for efficient and scalable database architecture and design.
Ability to bring your intellectual curiosity and thoughtful opinions with you everyday
Appreciation for a healthy work-life balance (yes, we said it…even for a DBA role)
