The Walker, a prominent 21st Century contemporary art center, seeks an experienced Director of Human Resources to provide overall strategic HR leadership and oversee all HR programs and services for a staff of approximately 115 full-time and 30 part-time employees. Responsibilities include recruitment and selection; compensation planning and oversight; organizational planning; HRIS processing; benefit planning and administration; employee relations; training and development; performance management; regulatory compliance; EEO and Affirmative Action tracking and compliance, staff policies and procedures, wellness initiatives, and records maintenance. The HR Director serves as a strategic adviser to senior management and other supervisory staff on human resources issues, staff engagement/development strategies, and policy compliance concerns while fostering a positive workplace environment consistent with the Walker’s values and mission.

The ideal candidate will possess an innovative spirit to work with the Walker staff culture that requires respect and flexibility. Experience within the non-profit cultural sector is highly desirable, as is a history of success utilizing innovative management techniques, staff partnerships, and collaborative efforts to produce excellent staff productivity and engagement. Strong organization skills are a must. Interest in contemporary culture and art and Walker’s programs/exhibitions would be a strong plus.

Other qualifications include: a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in human resources management, organizational development, industrial psychology, or related field; certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR); 7+ years of experience in an HR capacity with progressive responsibility of developing and implementing organization-wide HR strategies and programs; and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and payroll/benefit administration systems (ADP). Demonstrated ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels of the organization is required. Candidates must possess direct yet diplomatic communication and strong writing skills; ability to utilize technology for a variety of HR communication and recruiting functions; and a high degree of discretion and judgment.
