The Assistant Project Manager works under the supervision of the Project Manager in a supporting role, and works closely coordinating between project management and field operations.
General duties include scheduling, submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), document control, change management, quantity surveys, bid package scoping and procurement assistance, quality control program, and documentation. The Assistant Project Manager also provides support to the Project Manager for plan approvals, building permit issuance, processing plan revisions, and inspections.
The Assistant Project Manager participates in meetings and conferences with subcontractors, the client and design team, and handles required documentation and minutes.
The Assistant Project Manager should be capable of all duties of Project Engineer II, and should have demonstrated success in that role, or equivalent role.
In general, the primary areas of responsibility are:
Develop bid package scope of work and Quantity surveys
Document management and design coordination
Material and equipment deliveries and expediting
Submittals and shop drawings
Change management and cost controls
Project schedule updates and short term schedules
Project quality control and quality assurance program
BS/BA degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred.
Proven prior success at Project Engineer II level, or equivalent role. Already operating in general at the Assistant Project Manager level.
As a general guideline, a minimum three (3) years in the building construction industry, with at least two (2) years as Project Engineer.
Those of Project Engineer II plus:
Sound understanding of essential job functions, duties, and responsibilities of Project Manager, and a general understanding of that of Superintendent.
