  • Basic Function:

    The General Manager is responsible for the safe, timely and efficient operation of the Distribution Center in accordance with all company policies, procedures and applicable laws. The GM utilizes information from Supply Chain Planning and Analysis, and the DC management team to provide operational decisions, leadership, and direction to keep the distribution center operations aligned with company goals and objectives.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Manages all aspects of distribution center operations to provide an environment that promotes high quality customer service to internal and external customers.

    Responsible for developing intermediate and long term operational plans for the DC,
    including equipment needs, staffing levels, and inventory management.

    Approves quarterly department goals and objectives for the operations managers.

    Finalizes and approves daily plans and workload with the AGM and operations managers to ensure daily goals and objectives are achieved.

    Ensures that all departments are performing accurately and efficiently in accordance with DC and department goals.

    Oversees the DC?s Regional Transportation department to ensure that all stores are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.

    Maintains contact with Zone Vice Presidents, District and store managers to prevent or resolve problems and ensure an efficient and accurate operation.

    Mentors and advises AGM and operations managers with regard to operational and strategic decision making.

    Communicates timely information to the VP of Logistics, the management team, and DC associates.

    Notifies VP of Logistics of any critical issues regarding DC operations or customer service issues.

    Shares essential information from corporate or executive level meetings with AGM and management team.

    Conducts general communication meetings to provide company information, open lines of communication, and build trust with associates.

    Responsible for the overall financial management of the distribution center.

    Works with VP of distribution and Logistics to submit annual DC budget.

    Monitors and approves all expenditures including payroll administration, building maintenance, and requests for capital.

    Verifies monthly P & L reports against invoice transmittals and budgeted expenses.

    Holds weekly budget review meetings with AGM and management team to improve understanding of financial management of the DC.

    Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and associate programs
    such as safety, productivity, and accuracy, and employee relations.

    Responsible for providing a clean, safe work environment for all associates.

    Attends Safety Incident Reviews and provides input as needed.

    Partners with AGM and HR Manager to resolve precedent setting decisions, associate issues and concerns, and performance issues on the management team.

    Works with AGM and HRM to design action plans to address associate survey results and ensures communications and implementation of action plans.

    Training and Development

    Mentors AGM and management team in daily decision making and areas for development listed on individual IDP.

    Gives constructive feedback in a timely manner to provide learning and growth opportunities.

    Participates in Succession Planning to identify and prepare internal candidates for future opportunities.

Job Requirements:
  • ? Minimum 7 years Operations Management experience in distribution environment.
  • ? Strong organization and project management experience.
  • ? Ability to influence decisions through interpersonal skills versus power of position.
  • ? Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office software, spreadsheets, and WMS systems
Educational Requirements:
  • ? Bachelors Degree in Logistics or Business.
