The service technician trainee possess a general mechanical knowledge of all basic systems of a vehicle and the ability to follow direction of supervisors and/or service publications to perform work satisfactorily.
o Stay current in the latest diagnostic methods and service techniques for the vehicles sold and serviced by the dealership
o Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
o Follow factory and dealership repair procedures when performing warranty work
o Participate in service technician training programs
o Become familiar with latest bulletins, service manuals and other service publications
o Participate in all in-dealership service training activities
o Attend manufacture sponsored service trainings
o Record cause of failure and a description of work done accurately and clearly on all repair orders
o Communicate regularly with service manager, service technician team leader and/or service consultant to confirm repair order information and diagnostic information
o Request parts from the parts department as necessary
o Communicate regularly with the service manager, service technician team leader and/or service consultant to confirm diagnosis, status of repair, road test results and completion of work
o Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the company's vision, mission and values in all interactions with customers, co-workers and suppliers
o Adheres to all company policies, procedures and safety standards
o Follow company safety procedures to avoid exposure to fumes, dirt and harsh chemicals
o Must meet company's requirements for employment
o Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information
o General mechanical skills
o Must have a valid driver's license
o Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
o Professional appearance
o Manual dexterity, good judgment and ability to operate power and hand tools and other types of machinery safely
o Demonstrated customer service skills
o Knowledge of all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance
o Graduate of mechanical vocational trade school or equivalent experience
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
o Exposure to inclement weather
o Ability to operate an automobile
o Prolonged periods of standing, stooping and bending.
o Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
o Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and or pulling of arm or leg controls, or requires working at a production rate/pace entailing the constant pushing and /or pulling of materials
o High school diploma or equivalent
o Must have technical aptitude displayed by ASE certification or successful completion of pre-employment test
o Technical or trade school degree preferred
