General Description:Provides support to Anatomic Pathology department by accessioning specimens, performing gross descriptions of simple and limited complex pathology specimens.Essential Function/Duties:Assists in the autopsy of suite, cuts bone specimens. Performs photography and x-rays of specimens and embeds surgical tissues. Assists in the preparation and cutting of frozen sections. Accurately dissects and uses the proper protocol/description for the following specimen types: Appendix, Bladder, Bone-femoral head excision, etc.

Performs autopsies with the pathologist. Assists with necropsy dissections, trimming of gross necropsy tissues for microscopic studies and photographing of selected necropsy and surgical specimens. Gathers results of postmortem studies for the preparation of the necessary necropsy reports. Performs surgical pathology duties of examination, gross description and dissection of organ and tissue specimens.

Ensures surgical specimens of legal importance are properly identified and maintained. Participates in the daily maintenance of equipment such as rotating tissue cabinets, filing slides, keeping area clean and supplies in order. Enters appropriate billing per specimen and flags specimens with inappropriate billing.Minimum Qualifications:*Education: Associates Degree in biological sciences or related field; and *Experience: One (1) year laboratory technical experienceOR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of technical laboratory experience for each of the required education.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of tissue processing procedures and medical laboratory techniques and terminology.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment.
