Job Summary: The role of the Operating Room Nurse Manager is to lead staff in providing the highest quality of patient care during the surgical process. The Operating Room Nurse Manager is responsible for the supervision, orientation and continuing education of the Operating Room Staff and is accountable to the Director of Surgery for the coordination of all patient care given during the intraoperative phase of the surgical process. The Operating Nurse Manager also assists with the development and implementation of the surgical systems goals, policies and procedures along with the adherence to AORN Standards and compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory guidelines. Essential Duties: Complies and provides direction with hospital and departmental policies, procedures and assignments concerning safety, infection control and equipment.

Demonstrates competency to provide direction in basic clinical practices in the operating room according to established guidelines of clinical job classification. Assist in the assessment of staffing needs and selection of appropriate personnel by consultation and interview. Develops and implements programs for the orientation of new staff and adapts orientation program to meet individual needs. Instructs, observes and documents job performance of new staff in a timely manner.

Maintains education records to include license and certification documentation. Assesses and provides continuing education needs and requirements of staff relevant to technological developments, changing licensure requirements, standards of practice and revisions in policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Director of Surgery and RN Clinical Specialty Coordinators to ensure the continued skill development of staff relating to service-specific needs are addressed. Collaborates with the Perioperative Leadership Team and the Chief of Anesthesia to meet identified educational and developmental needs of orientees, personnel, and anesthesia staff in the surgery department.

Develops and implements orientation plans and the SPCA training program for new staff to meet individual needs. Ensures that in-services and credentialing relating to procedures, equipment, and supplies are provided to appropriate departmental staff. Ensures adequate communication inter/intra-departmental and with administrative and medical staff. Maintains knowledge of current trends in standards of care and health care management.

QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor of Science preferred. Experience: At least two years of experience in the operating room preferred. License/Certification: Current state RN license required.

CNOR certification required. BLS certification required.
