The individual in this position is responsible for the implementation of speech therapy services under the direction of a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist to achieve desired patient outcomes. The SLP Assistant:
- Provides goal directed, activity oriented treatment to promote optimum independence in language, speech, and cognitive activities.
- Ensures continuation of performance through effective education of the patient, family or support system.
- Provides adaptive methods and equipment as appropriate to enhance performance.
1.Manage and coordinate patient treatments based on age-specific needs.
2.Provide interventions according to a written plan of care and the direction of the licensed speech language pathologist to meet the speech and language therapy needs of patients as assigned.
3.Participates in quality management, utilization review and in-service education activities as assigned.
4.Follow all established policies and procedures for documentation regarding timelines and form completion.
5.Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and work as a team player for continuity of care when appropriate.
6.Analyze tasks and adapt the environment, tools, materials, treatments to the needs of patients and their socio-cultural context.
7.Administer treatment focusing on oral-motor sills, expressive/receptive language skills, articulation, voice, fluency, and alternate communication devices.
8.Determine appropriateness of patient's response to treatment and consult with licensed speech language pathologist concerning modifications to plan of care.
9.Design individual home programs and educate patients, family and ancillary personnel in specific procedure, equipment utilization and home programs.
10.Identifies patient/family needs for other services and refers accordingly.
11.Complete schedule for patient treatment according to volume of patient load and demand, including coordination with other services and non-direct care tasks. Will note cancellations, no shows, and reschedule visits 100% of the time on the day that the event occurs. Submit monthly schedule (if required) by stated deadline in company policy.
12.Refers patients out to other professionals if warranted through patient observation.
13.Demonstrate flexibility and responsibility in accepting work assignments, supporting hospital operations by performing additional duties and tasks when directed. Search for better ways of doing things by recommending or initiating suggestions for improvements for operations and services.
14.Participate in staff meetings and quarterly meetings.
15.Participate in company outcome studies or patient satisfaction surveys to achieve better than average scores.
16.Makes recommendations to the company to improve scores on surveys, outcome studies, and performance improvement.
17.Maintains a 90% plan of care compliance for all patients. Strives to meet productivity standards set by the Company.
18.Communicates patient holds and reasons to the patient's families on caseload. Reports if patient must go on hold and reason to manager/supervisor per company policy.
- Graduated from an ASHA accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology
- CPR Certification
- Licensed or licensure eligible in Texas
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, families
- Protect confidentiality in all areas as applicable
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations in Occupational Therapy practice
- Ability to keep accurate records and write meaningful reports
- Ability to execute therapeutic procedures and manipulate special equipment accurately and safely
- Organize and prioritize tasks and projects
- Reliable transportation, evidence of current driver's license and auto liability insurance are required if working in Pediatric environment.
