PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Responsible for all Research Biotechnology (RB) products sales and sales activities within assigned territory

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Generate and qualify sales leads

Close profitable business by meeting or exceeding sales goals and objectives

Build, grow and manage RB accounts in assigned territory

Champion and drive customer awareness of Sigma's RB Business Unit and its Best-in-Class/Innovative technologies and products

Create and maintain relationships with customers to promote penetration, retention and loyalty

Devise and implement successful account and territory strategies that support increased sales and the strategic goals of the RB Business Unit

Team with RB Technology Consultants, RB Sales Development and sales from other Business Units to identify, develop and close opportunities

Team with RB Technology Consultants and RB Sales Development to identify and mitigate competitive barriers to increase sales and identify opportunities for product improvement/development

Work with purchasing departments to understand procurement processes and develop strategies to mitigate sales barriers

Submit timely monthly sales activity reports

Experience:
Education:
Knowledge and skills typically acquired through the acquisition of a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related science is a must

Completion of graduate level courses in Science &/or Business is desirable

Experience:
Minimum of two to five years field sales experience is a must

Experience in reagent and/or technology platform sales is a strong plus

Experience in sales and/or territory management is a plus

Essential and Critical Skills:
Critical: Proven ability to identify, drive and close sales employing a Technical Consultative approach

Critical: Knowledge of the Gene Expression and/or Functional Genomics, and/or Proteomics and/or Cell-based Assay related market is a must. Experience (either practical or sales) in any of these areas is a strong plus.

Critical: Ability to independently manage time and priorities

Critical: Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Ability to influence/educate others in order to gain acceptance/approval of innovative concepts/products is a requisite

Ability to develop, implement, manage and track strategic and tactical plans both independently and with a team

Demonstrate organizational, prioritization and planning skills required for successful account management, territory management, and project management

Proven ability to work and succeed under minimal supervision

ADDITIONAL LOCAL NEEDS:
Availability to travel 25%-30%
