Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent employment.
Supervises, plans, and coordinates the major functions of the Records Unit of the Kauai Police Department; and performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours per week is equivalent to six months of experience. In addition, hours worked in excess of 40 hours is equivalent to one year, not one and one-half years.
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) years of responsible work experience involving the maintenance of law enforcement records, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Firearms Requirement: As applicable to the position, must be qualified to carry and/or possess firearms or ammunition in accordance with State and federal laws, e.g. no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction, conviction of any felony, crime of violence, illegal sale of any drug, etc..
Knowledge of: principles and practices of supervision; practices and procedures relating to police records and computerized law enforcement informational systems; the organization, functions, rules, regulations, and policies of the Kauai County Police Department; pertinent local, State, and Federal mandated laws on records, evidence, weapons, and fingerprint identification.
Ability to: plan, coordinate, and supervise the work and training of staff engaged in law enforcement clerical activities; interpret laws, rules and regulations; formulate operational policies and procedures; review reports and make effective decisions and recommendations; deal tactfully and effectively with others; communicate effectively orally and in writing; locate and abstract data from legal files and records; prepare correspondence and reports.
