Operate, service, monitor and clear out all plant auxiliary equipment systems and/or components of a system. Communicate to operators and supervisors the operating status of the plant? equipment. Monitor and inspect all plant equipment and operate all local controls and devices for proper operation. Service, adjust, lubricate, clean, inspect and repair plant equipment. Assist in preparing boilers?turbine/generators and auxiliaries for operation and removal from service. Check/monitor operating conditions of plant auxiliary equipment (fans, compressors, pumps, valves, pulverizers, etc.). Evaluate conditions detected by touch, sight, smell, sound and instrumentation indications. Remove equipment from service and put repaired equipment or operating systems back in service. Unload chemicals arriving for delivery. Remove waste products of combustion from collection points. Monitor and operate equipment at isolated locations which require operating a vehicle in all weather conditions. Collect fuel samples and obtain readings form various gauges and measurement equipment while troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Record and diagnose all problems and report them to the supervisor. Perform auxiliary switching, as directed. Patrol and inspect plant material conveying equipment for such items as: hot bearings, plugged chutes and equalization of material on belts where applicable. Isolate equipment and place clearance tags, as directed. Place and remove protective grounds in accordance with clearance orders as required. Operate, regulate and adjust auxiliary equipment with local controls including pumps, valves, screens, strainers, water treating plant equipment, filters and demineralizers for condensate clean-up, oil purifying and filtering equipment and similar equipment. Patrol and inspect for proper operation, equipment such as turbines, generators, exciters, boiler feed pumps, coal feeders, steam traps and drainers, collector ring brushes and related equipment; report abnormal conditions requiring maintenance. Place into or remove from service and initiate the automatic regeneration of make-up demineralizers. Assist in placing into/removing from service, initiating resin transfer and initiating automatic regeneration of the polishing demineralizers. Operate, inspect, clean and maintain sewage treatment facilities, water sampling equipment and water treating system; including place into and remove from service, initiating regeneration and resin transfer of make-up demineralizers. Blow out, clean and repair sample lines and impulse lines for control equipment and instruments. Collect and prepare coal, water and ash samples, and conduct routine testing and analysis. Dismantle, inspect, clean, reassemble and make minor repairs to small motors, pumps, fans and similar plant equipment. Locate, isolate and make minor repairs to defects in electrical systems. Perform carpentry work and make minor repairs to walls, floors, ceilings and windows. Erect and remove simple scaffolding and rigging. Identify problems and make repairs to electrical lighting systems and small diameter non-code piping systems and fixtures. Operate, clean and maintain oil filtering and purifying equipment. Replace and adjust valve packing, drive belts, conveyor idlers, gauge glasses, position/limit switches, pressure gauges, manometer pressure switches and similar devices. Inspect, clean and repair oil lighters and ignitors. Clean de-energized electrical equipment. Operate, close, inspect, clean and make minor repairs and adjustments to pulverizers, feeders, fans, dampers, registers, burners, air heaters and similar plant equipment. Test heat exchangers and other plant equipment and systems for leaks, locate and repair leaks, if no welding is involved. Conduct simple interlock tests and perform simple functional tests on control systems and instrumentation. Remove and repair non-asbestos insulation and lagging. Operate, adjust and repair slagblowers. Clean and maintain batteries and adjust charge rate. Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition. Perform duties in accordance with Company's safety rules, operating regulations and practices, and report unsafe conditions and practices. Train for and carry out assignments in fire fighting, first aid and other emergency response programs as required. Direct the work of employees assigned to assist. Prepare and maintain records as required. Assist employees as required. Train other employees as assigned. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Associate degree in technical field or equivalent. Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) test is required for this position. Must be able to pass an examination and/or demonstrations as determined by the Company and in addition: Must be able to learn all applicable operating instructions and procedures. Must be able to work effectively with other employees. Must be able to learn the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work. Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights required. Must be able to learn the tools and equipment and their use as required in the work. Must be able to understand the care and attention required for the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Must be familiar with the layout and functions of boiler and turbogenerators, their auxiliaries, and accessories. Must be able to learn, analyze, and interpret instrument readings and indications, and to detect abnormal sounds in operating equipment. Must have demonstrated ability to lead and direct other employees and coordinate the work involved. Must possess the appropriate State driver's license. Must be able to read, interpret and work from flow diagrams and electrical one-line drawings and able to make revisions to elementary prints. Must comply with all safety rules and regulations. Respond to callouts to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules. Rotating shift work. Holidays and weekends as required.
