Essential Functions:

This position will be responsible for engineering services such as the analysis and preparation of reports related to roadway safety, the development of designs for safety improvements and/or enhancements, implementation of current state and federal transportation and safety regulations and mandates. This position must confirm that traffic signals meet warrants, monitor crash histories and prepare collision diagrams so that high frequency locations will receive necessary improvements, investigate roadway conditions when fatal crashes occur, respond to citizens' safety concerns, including speed limits, school zones and signing. The ideal candidate will have thorough Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Design Standards for Design, Construction, Maintenance and Utility Operations on the State Highway System along with their application and use and the ability to prepare, analyze and review traffic signal designs, traffic signal warrant studies, "Stop" sign warrant studies, traffic speed studies, traffic signing and marking plans as well as general traffic studies such as traffic calming. Internal responsibilities include supervision of the in-house design team and review of intersection safety redesigns, sidewalk designs and signing projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or a related field; supplemented by nine (9) years of progressively responsible previous experience and/or training that includes project management, civil engineering, engineering design, construction supervision, budget administration, contract administration, computer-aided design (CAD) operations, and experience in transportation engineering or traffic engineering. Must possess and maintain valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or obtain one within six (6) months of hire. A Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (P.T.O.E.) is preferred. Experience with the use of AutoCAD, MicroStation and with the use and application of traffic modeling software is also desired. Basic roadway and drainage design experience desired. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805. Fingerprinting required.
