Under indirect supervision, performs and oversees financial analyses for the Department of Biology in anticipation of implementation of proposed funding models and to add expertise to the accounting suite in Biology for both general and grant accounting. Part of this position will involve in depth forecasting and analysis of courses in the Department to generate excellence in education and revenue for the Department based on the principles of proposed models and in the interim to build the courses to generate more SCH in Biology. This position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: financial forecasting and reporting, budget and reporting system development, and financial analysis for the Department of Biology. The Mgr, Research Admin will establish and monitor systems and procedures to ensure compliance with all accounting principles of the University, State, and Federal governments by overseeing the design and implementation of various integrated systems for financial planning for a department with a $6 million annual Instructional and General budget and a more than $15 million research budget. The MRA will ensure compliance with all regulations and audit requirements. The MRA will implement department-wide financial management processes and programs using information compiled and analyzed from department financial statements. The MRA will oversee the cultivation of alumni donors for the department and includes the pursuit of capital funding sources, to include oversight of the financial and land-related fiscal management of the Department's 501C non-profit, Biological Society of New Mexico, (BSNM). Some of these duties will include the consideration by the Mgr, Research Admin of the financial relationships with other entities within the Department of Biology. Offering financial forecasting and analysis for the entities for successful operation and maintenance of their facilities and programs will be an important aspect of this position. The MRA will be the point of contact for the department for all future testing. The MRA will manage all staff in the accounting suite. This is a benefits eligible position. Bachelor's degree with 5 to 7 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Master's degree in Business or Finance Five or more years of experience directly related to financial accounting and forecasting. Demonstrated knowledge and use of all electronic UNM reporting systems, including Banner, Hyperion, LoboMart, LoboWeb, and CAYUSE. Demonstrated knowledge of grant accounting, grant writing Demonstrated success in fund-raising and alumni relations Experience with UNM budget processes including Budget and Salary Planner and UBPP 7000. Demonstrated leadership skills in collaboration and in training. Demonstrated self-starter and task completion. Ability to work as part of an upper level management team
