Qualifications

Part time position working 32 hours per week. 3:30pm-9:30pm with one day on the weekend 8:00am-4:30pm

JOB SUMMARY

Under the management of Cancer Services Administration and the direction of the Medical Oncology Medical Staff actively assists in the assessment of patient conditions, provides physical and emotional care and support to the patient and their caregiver, and participates in the teaching of the patients who are admitted to the chemotherapy unit. The timely and appropriate delivery of service is provided in a concerned and caring atmosphere according to the Philosophy of Saint John┬┐s Health System. The Registered Nurse providing chemotherapy treatments functions within the current accepted standards of medical and nursing practice and State licensure.

Follows all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and quality assessment. Responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures which reflect the mission and philosophy of the Ascension Health System. Attends all mandatory in-service programs and maintains professional and education requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Graduate of School of Nursing

ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) course training for chemotherapy, biotherapy (must obtain this within 1 year of taking this position)

EDUCATION PREFERRED

Bachelors of Science in Nursing, OCN (Oncology Nurse Certified)

Graduate of a National League for Nursing (NLN) accredited school

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE REQUIRED

Current Registered Nurse licensure or temporary permit to practice nursing in the State of Indiana

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

2 years of nursing experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

1 year of oncology exposure

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

Oncology experience with recent chemotherapy administration experience

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of oncology and oncologic management of patients

Must be competent in peripheral IV access and accessing ports

Must possess the ability to assess patient data related to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department┬┐s policies and procedures

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Exposed to infections and contagious diseases

Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Considerable standing/walking

Lifts, positions, transfers patients

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Lifts supplies and equipment
