General Dynamics IT has an opening for a Systems Engineer in Washington, DC.

The Systems Engineer is a subject matter expert to investigate/research issues, determine impact, and provide solutions for improving accessibility to electronic content with existing web sites and to insure future web sites are Section 508 compliance.

The Engineer shall display leadership through the ability to investigate/research issues, determine impact, and provide solutions for improving accessibility to electronic content. They shall provide leadership in creating guidelines for new areas of accessibility.

  • Designing and testing content accessible web and mobile applications.
  • Implementing Accessibility solutions
  • Implementing World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) specifications
  • With the Section 508 Laws and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

3+ years of related experience.

The Engineer's technical skills shall include, but not be limited to familiarity with HTML and cascading style sheets (CSS) and experience working with the latest versions of screen readers such as JAWS or MAGIC.

Knowledge of existing US 508 statutes and related EIT criteria

Awareness of proposed ICT-508 (2011-2012) standards and criteria

In-depth knowledge of HTM, HTML coding structures and related 508 criteria

Experience in creating PDF, DOC, and email based 508 compliant artifacts

Ability to interpret existing and proposed US 508 criteria and develop applicable procedures/practices

Ability to participate in projects and provide leadership regarding: Accessibility, 508 standards, and Industry practices

Direct tool knowledge of Screen Readers, particularly JAWs

Awareness of Industry tools for 508 testing and review: formatters, screen readers, etc. (JAWs, AI Squared, etc.)

Knowledge of W3C WAI activities and related WAI practices-standards for Web and non-web based applications

A demonstrated ability to undertaken multiple projects and provide a variety of 508 support services: analysis, design, develop/code, test, and reporting

Awareness of related US Accessibility statutes and standards: ADA, Sect. 504, ABA, etc.

Successful candidate must be able to obtain and retain a USPS security clearance. Candidate must be authorized to work in the US and a resident of the US for the previous 5 years with no longer than a 90 day absence.
