As the Senior Strategic Planning Analyst in Microsoft’s Global Foundation Services finance group, you will help define the future direction of the Company’s cloud computing infrastructure by helping to map out market dynamics among competitors, craft a long-term growth strategy for GFS and explore business model innovation. You will provide research and analytical leadership on cross-functional teams across GFS that identify, evaluate and analyze evolving strategic priorities. Critical skills for this position include demonstrated ability to perform complex qualitative and quantitative analysis, develop in-depth and innovative business models, write and present in a clear and insightful manner, and champion multiple deliverables and deadlines. The successful candidate will also possess the ability to synthesize and analyze multiple industry trends in a logical and forward thinking manner, and strong interpersonal skills to develop successful internal and cross-functional relationships.
1. Create robust financial models to analyze the impact and feasibility of proposed strategic.
2. Perform competitive cost benchmarking.
3. Participate in annual GFS Planning processes, Business Group long range forecasting, investigative market studies and other projects as needed.
4. Conduct analyses of emerging markets, including market opportunity, business case, and potential business structures.
5. Working with the Director to improve the quality, breadth, and clock speed of strategic decisions by incorporating advanced analytic tools, process rigor and appropriate cross functional participation
Strong candidates will have 8+ years of financial planning & analysis or strategy consulting experience. Knowledge of servers, networking and datacenter architecture is highly desirable. This is a financial planning and analysis role, not engineering planning, thus the successful candidate will also have:
Marketing, positioning, strategy and/or Analyst experience
Strong, proven analytical, market sizing and writing skills
Strong Excel skills - ability to design, develop and maintain large Excel models for forecasting
Experience using standard statistical analysis methods (regression analysis, data correlations)
Ability to interpret financial statements (income statement, cash flow)
Database management skills highly desirable
Strong project management skills
Ability to synthesize primary and secondary sources of data into forecasting assumptions, i.e. - ability to quantify qualitative information.
The ability and desire to stay current on new industry developments affecting technology needs
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Business, Economics or Finance from a top program, and 7+ years of related experience; or an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Economics or Finance, and 10+ years related experience
Prefer top-tier strategy consulting or industry research experience
