Job Summary: Processing/validating authorizations for release of Protective Health Information via phone, fax, written, electronic and/or in person.
The job is off-site, however you may be required to cross cover at Royal Oak or Troy Hospital.
Process requests/authorizations for release of patient’s protective health information from various types of requesters: i.e. patient, patient care, insurance, attorney, subpoena, search warrant, etc. Determine if the authorization is valid according to Federal, State and Local laws/regulations. Problem solves to ensure requesters receive all records needed.
Facilitate record retrieval, distribution and return of records from off-site storage center. Copy, fax, scan, and electronically generate records with Attention to Detail.
Responsible to provide a High Level of Customer Service at all times either direct or indirect. Required to cross-cover at the record pick-up offices at both Royal Oak and Troy Hospital.
This is a high volume call area.
Preferred Qualifications: RHIT/RHIA/CCS degree/credentials. Working knowledge of hospital applications: EPIC and Misys
Required Qualifications: High School Graduate or GED required by hospital policy. Medical Terminology, Windows Proficiency.
Effective verbal and written communication skills that incorporate age, cultural and development needs.
Excellent skills in problem solving, telephone, customer service, computer, organization, and multi-tasking.
