As a Planer Forklift Operator at Columbia Falls Lumber, you will have the opportunity to:
Maintain the flow of units in the planer.
Maintain a neat and organized warehouse.
Make sure units are pulled from and loaded to the planer equipment as necessary to keep up with production pace.
As a Planer Forklift responsibilities include performing pre-shift forklift inspections; feeding, off bearing and tallying for the planer; off bearing and introducing jags into the sorter pull chain; off bearing and stacking lumber in the proper areas. Changing and tallying over sorter pull chain; introducing full units form planer to sorter dry chain into the bander. Operating computerized ticket printers for each unit; stapling tickets to loads; placing clubs between load and stacking lumber in neat rows using stickers between loads. Performing maintenance on the forklift, including but not limited to maintaining fluids and fueling forklift. Other duties include assisting sawmill forklift operator and car loader as needed, plowing snow, and loading/unloading trucks. Communicate with supervisor, other shifts and operators about problems that might arise.
When necessary, the planer forklift operator will assist with other production duties/positions in the sawmill and/or planer.

Additional Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience: Prefer a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating a forklift. Experience in a board mill is a plus. Forklift training certificate required every three years.
Additional Requirements: The job of Planer Forklift Operator is a Medium Duty job. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
A sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production, and minimizing downtime is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment.
Tasks performed involve work with equipment and material that require familiarity with formal safety procedures and the following of these procedures in order to maintain the safety of the work environment.
Candidates must have the ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions, and have good hand eye coordination. Willingness to work varying shifts, overtime and weekends/holidays.
